KDKA TV Hires New Weather Babe (Meteorologist)

KDKA TV just hired a new Weather Babe/Meteorlogist, Valerie Abati. No, she is not related to Sonni Abatta. However, Sonni did interview the newest Weather Babe to grace the Pittsburgh TV market here. Here is Valerie Abati's KDKA bio. Valerie is taking Rebecca Hower's meteorologist position at KDKA after Rebecca resigned and moved to Erie, PA. Notice I did not say replace because no one can really replace Rebecca Hower, who in my opinion, was one of a kind. We will have to wait and see how Valerie performs on the air. In Rebecca's absence, the veteran meteorologist Dennis Bowman filled in. Dennis Bowman is a true professional and is great on the air. Dennis Bowman gives presentations to schools about weather using his ventriloquism skills, check out his website.

Saw Valerie yesterday morning and I did not like her. she has a very nasal- sounding voice. I am with you, no one can replace Rebecca. She was so professional. The new girl is not.

Yes, nobody can replace Rebecca, but please give the new girl a chance. It would be unfair to compare the two. Valerie needs time to show her own unique on air personality. It has only been two days. I Google'd Valerie, and she was very popular with the male audience wherever she was employed. I like the trend where meteorologists are female, young, smart, and good looking. Valerie is also a member and seal holder of the American Meteorological Society, so she has the brains to match the looks.

Sorry that you have Valerie. I liked her in Cincy now i lost respect for her! Lets just say she made some bad choices. Not the best moral standard. I wouldn't want her giving the forcast.

KDKA has a history of supporting it's TV personalities: Don Cannon, Marty Griffin, Keith Jones. One exception would be Bruce Pompeani. It must be nice to work for an organization that supports you. I do not know what Valerie did, but she is from western PA, so maybe a change of scenery will be good for her. I still think she deserves a chance to prove herself to the TV audience.

Just want to say something about that negative comment about Valerie above. That person has no idea what he or she is talking about. I do know about Valerie because she came from Cincy where I live. She was the best and she was my favorite and still is! The city of Pittsburgh is very lucky to have her!
