I have strong suspicions that the on-line dating website Match.com is a ripoff. I was a non-paying member several times in the past. Amazingly, it seems that almost exactly one month after my paid subscription expires, I receive an e-mail in my Inbox. Of course, the only way to read the e-mail is to subscribe. When I open the e-mail, it is from someone who has deleted her profile and also who happens to be from Russia with an-email address ending in *.rambler.ru. It happened to me in mid September, almost exactly one month after my subscription expired. If my memory serves me correctly, I subscribed back in February of this year because I received an e-mail. Of course, it was from a female supposedly from Russia, again with an e-mail address ending in *.rambler.ru.
I thought I should warn all you single guys out there about this. I have seen similar accounts on the web from guys stating they were fooled into subscribing. I have read some news articles that there have been lawsuits filed against Match.com. One lawsuit claimed that Match.com hired females to go out on dates with guys. Slime-balls !

A friend of mine has written several blog posts about this very issue. There a is a lot of online dating scams but I don't think match is one of them. See http://pittsburghinternetdating.com/category/scams/
Thanks for the info and commenting on my little blog. I did stumble upon your friend's blog about a month ago, and now I am a regular reader. Good stories, good reading.
Yes, match.com is a ripoff and scam. I have in the past received emails I can't open, or even see who looked at me, wtihout paying. It seems it always happens whenever I stop paying. Then they are either russian or someone being paid, as after I contact, I never hear back.
Now match.com has gone too far. I paid for a six month guarantee and they are not honoring it. I emailed them and they said I didn't sign up for it. Yet, every month I saw the guarantee symbol, and completed the requirements. I called them directly, was put on hold for 15 minutes and then told, that I did not contact enough people. Bullshit. Liars. Cheats. They stole another $100 from me without my permission. I would not have signed up for another six months. They just took it and won't refund. Shame on you match.com and shame on you Dr Phil.
This also happens to the females too .. i was on match and eharmony too the minute i cancel it and became non paying i would get an email saying they someone was interested but would never hear from them once signed back up .... and then another person(guy) would be interested only to keep asking me to send him money .. he would send me poetry and claimed it was his and i would google one line and find out it was from an old poet and i told him look dude stop lying i dont have time for this and he would say sorry and all this BS and then start saying he was stuck some where and that he needed money to get home or he had items stuck at a shipping yard soo strange ... so i had to block him... and then i would get matches of guys who were shorter than me and i would be like WTF ...So finally after months of not paying or using match or eharmony .... i deleted all my pictures and deleted my accounts ... i'm pretty much done ... it's all a scam directly from them or indirectly from the aholes that think a lot of women are desperate to find some and they both take advantage of it...
Match.com is joke and a scam. All these girls profile say they live close too you so you subscribe and wtf...they are in West Africa...surprise surprise
AND If you have to pay to see an e-mail that was sent by a paying member (which you have to be to send e-mails) then if you find a match and e-mail THEM, They will not see it unless THEY too are paying members so it is a complete waste of time and money!
Ya Ive been on that website for a while but just looking and not subscribed, didn't want to shell out the money because it's overpriced in my estimation. Then I got an email and thought it was from a girl who had winked at me, but it turned out to be from someone else, wayyyyyy older than me and from another state hundreds of miles away. So basically that email cost me $45 to look at and it was totally worthless. How convenient that they won't show you who its from and charge you up the butt for a one month subscription just to look at it.
Total bullshit! Never using that site again.
It is a ripoff. I subscribed once to Match.com. Used it for a short while and then hid my profile until my membrship ran out. Then I got an e-mail and went back in and my profile was activated (not by me). Then I was billed for another 6 months and when I called and said I did not want it, they said because I sent an e-mail they could not refund my money. It is a total scam. Don't subscribe to this service. They get your money for nothin!
Match.com has raped me for three years. It is my own fault for not paying closer attention to my checking account. They have been automatically removing right at $40 a month since May of 08. I told them that I felt a refund of more than the past month was in order. They say they cannot do that. I have NEVER given ANYone permission to take money from my account on a recurring basis. They say I must have and I maintain that I had to have canceled the account long ago. No way would I have allowed them to take that much money from my account. They also admitted that it had been years since any activity had occurred on my account.
I hope there is a warm dark place in hell for the people at Match.com.
I signed up for a 7-day trial and cancelled within the allotted time. I called customer service to make sure I had cancelled and that I wouldn't be charge. Two weeks lates I find out I was charged and they won't refund the money. I've put in a claim with Visa and am waiting to hear back. don't use this site. All they want is your money!
It is a rip off. I have been on it for a year and a half and the only emails I get are from fake profiles or ones I have absolutely nothing in common with. They just take your money then mess with you. Don't support scams like match.com
Yes, match.com is a complete scam, stay away. I signed up for a 6 months grantee last week, and 2 or 3 days ago, I stopped receiving alerts and e-mails, then when I tried to sign in, it says "there is a problem with your account", contacted customer services by e-mail (there was no phone number), they haven't responded for over 24 hours. I initially thought they were reputable but apparently not. Use other means.
Yup, total BS.. now the site won't even describe what their gaurantee is!!
so i signed up on Friday . I had 158 looks at my profile in the first 24hrs and loads of winks and favourites.
I decided to pay on Saturday and immediately all views stopped . no one answered any emails and only 2 more looks at my profile since I payed.
I called to ask why this has happened and was cut off the phone by the clerk .
called a third time and was told they will not remove my profile and I have to pay for 6 months.
STAY AWAY FROM MATCH.COM.
I fear it is just a huge rip off.
I have reported it to my bank and am waiting for a reply .
I was sensible enough to follow all of their proceedures for preventing recurring payments, when I signed up, so haven't been stung by that one...
Signed up for 3 months membership, which has since expired, and have deleted my profile/account...
Waste of about £65 GB ($110 US Equiv.) for 3 months, feeling ripped-off by no meetings/dates/genuine contact, and a lot of fake & expired account matching/contact!!
1) Female members seem to wink at you, and then when you email back, their profiles seem to 'disappear'
... Too many fake profiles to boost membership..
2) The 'matches' they provided for me are geographically unsuitable... even though I have specified a 35 mile maximum radius from home postal(ZIP)code.. (population of the 35 mile radius is circa 1.6 Million)
It classifies my town/city as {TOWN-NAME}, North Yorkshire (UK). ... But ... North Yorkshire is the largest UK county. Its a LONG WAY from where I live, to matches it randomly provides in Scarborough,Leeds,Huddersfield,Wakefield ETC.. 150-200 mile round trip... get a grip match.com!!
3) Simlilarly .. Ive had fake or Match.com paid for??? profiles email/wink at me from London & Edinburgh a couple of times, dont they realise that there are more towns/cities in the UK than that, and that each is about 250miles EACH-WAY (500mile round trip) for me!!!
4) Ive been invited to a couple of 'meet-other-members' type evenings, 50 miles away (Newcastle upon Tyne) ... Again a 100 mile round trip ... Again, get a grip match.com
5) Strange that preceeding my membership run-out date, I was getting 1 or 2 views per day...
... The day after my membership runs out I get 27 views in one day, but I have to renew to see them ...
Ermm, No!, your a scam!! Screw-you match.com!!
Match is a HUGE waste of time. All they want is your precious money. Who the heck knows why they want your money, but for all I care, you're not getting ANYTHING from me match.com! Don't even type it in the search bar. BTW... ANY dating website is a bad idea.
